Some cool things about him: he betrayed Napoleon badly, he had a tattoo on his back saying "death to all kings" from back in the French revolution, he's from a humble background and from the middle of nowhere in France, and the heirs to the throne of Sweden still descend from his lineage, he's the one who took Norway.

The term “charcuterie” refers to the preparing of cured meats, like prosciutto, bacon, salami, etc., but these days when people say charcuterie, they are usually referring to a fun, meat and cheese board that typically includes cured meats, a variety of cheeses, crackers, nuts, fruits and vegetables, and dipping sauces ...

  • Charcuterie is french, it originally means every preparation that’s related to pork meat. But we use it to talk about any kind of meat when we use it in real life. And a charcuterie board is a classic dish in France, it’s just some thin slices of different hams and different cheeses, and you eat them while drinking wine right before dinner. It’s called ‘’doing an aperitif’’

  • The situation in the UK is a bit weird. Whether you would use the imperial or metric system really depends on what it is you're measuring. For instance, you would measure your body weight in stones and pounds. However, if you were cooking, you would measure the ingredients in grams and milligrams. Similarly, if you were measuring the distance of a car journey, you would use miles and yards. However, if you were measuring the length of a nail or screw, you would use centimetres and millimetres.

So when people say there was a smorgasbord of food they mean there was a ton of food and lots of various types of food to eat. A charcuterie board is pretty specific in that it has little meats and cheeses that you can snack on. Ken loses his American card for this one cuz we’re about the same age and he definitely has heard of this word 😂

Norse are who you typically think of on big ships. Swedes, were the last to become "Vikings". The nerdy Swedes watched their cooler older brothers doing it, so they followed along, like Swedes do. Instead of raiding and conquering, Swedes traded and explored. Hardly what you think about when you hear "Viking". Historians pinpoint this time period as when being a Viking wasn't cool anymore. The nerdy normy Swedes were technically the last Vikings but if they never conquered or raided anything, were they ever really Vikings?
